May 14, Saturday 11-4pm
Our first Door county event is a reception for guest artists Romulus Craft. Intrepid Vermont ceramics artists, Ikuzi Teraki and Jeanne Bisson, stole our hearts when we first encountered their work. Smitten, we can’t wait to share it.
Christy Klug: Contemporary Grace Trunk Show/Reception Saturday, May 23, 12-5 pm at Martinez Studio
Christy Klug’s works in vitreous enamel, silver and gold embody an earthy sumptuousness. A veteran of the best-of-the-best craft shows, (she won Best of Show at the November Smithsonian Craft to Wear Show), Christy travels extensively and shows at widely respected museum shops and galleries around the country.
Her strong, elegant pieces pair so well with Sandra’s Monticello on Jefferson wardrobe…they have become an addiction. Lured by talk of kayaks, starry nights, dinners at Mr. Helsinki, Wickman House and Wence’s salsa…Christy will be with us all weekend. A selection of her work will remain for the season.
Michael Doerr, will be on hand celebrating Doerr Woodworking’s inclusion in the recently published book, “Sturgeon Bay-The Secret Treasures of Door County” by Thomas Jordan.
Fresh from our third consecutive (!) Smithsonian Show we will debut new weavings and paintings. With so much to be thankful for, light refreshments and big rounds of applause and much hugging …will be served. Come over and join us!

Michael Doerr Fine Handmade Furniture at Martinez Studio
In an insightful pairing of contemporary furniture and flatweave textiles, Michael Doerr Fine Handmade Furniture will be featured during a Guest Artist Weekend August 15-19 at Martinez Studio with a public reception, Saturday, August 17, 3-7pm.
Doerr Woodworking’s collaboration with Martinez Studio is a rare visual treat and a wonderful match between contemporary furniture and flatweave, a perfect blend of interior collaboration. Though Michael and his wife Bobbi have admired the Martinez’ work for years, it was a lucky coincidence that brought them together for their first joint venture in New York City for the Architectural Digest Show. It was in working together at the New York show they realized that not only their artwork complimented each other, but their friendship does as well. Vibrant colors and designs in close proximity with warm rich wood tones, all combine to create beauty, functionality and comfort.
Michael Doerr’s career started as a shipwright, working on large wooden sailboats. Applying that knowledge and expertise to thirty years of furniture design and construction, Michael has created a large portfolio of commissioned work with a well established U.S and international clientele base. Believing that “the primary function of a chair is comfort,” he welcomes students to his one man studio for a week long one-on-one chair construction class, where the students learn Michael’s woodworking techniques and produce their own chair.
Doerr will be exhibiting his unique designs at Martinez Studio, including his signature chair series and a collection of contemporary tables. Let your imagination roam finding the hidden images in the natural graining of his book- matched cabinets.
The opportunity to view these nationally known artists at the height of their craft here in their home of Door County is an occasion that should not be missed.
